BowAuthority's Detailed Review:

Power

The PSE Fang LT shoots bolts up to 330 feet per second, producing up to 97 foot pounds of kinetic energy right off the rail. This is some pretty impressive power from a crossbow in this price range, especially considering the relatively small dimensions of the weapon.

With this type of punch, even when you adjust for decreased velocities, the crossbow creates enough force to take down even larger game like elk and black bear, although you'll want to be in pretty close range to make a killing shot. It is perfect, however for handling the typical North American whitetail.

Durability

The rail on the PSE Fang LT is molded rather than machined, a common construction for less expensive crossbows. This common one-piece construction is one of the major ways manufacturers keep costs low. Machined rails may be more expensive, but they also tend to be more durable and allow for more consistently accurate shooting.

PSE believes in their product, backing the Fang with a solid 5 year warranty.

Overall, the Fang is surprisingly durable considering its lightweight design and affordable price tag. One area of concern when it comes to quality and durability is the included bolts. You'll want to upgrade these before the start of hunting season. PSE definitely focused their efforts on the crossbow in this package deal rather than the accessories. Keep in mind that accessories can always be upgraded.

Quality of Optics

Included in this ready-to-shoot package is a 4X32 MR Scope. This scope is definitely where PSE chose to cut corners. It has a fairly narrow field of view and fine crosshairs that can be difficult to see in low light conditions. While this optic is suitable for a beginner or someone who will do most of their shooting on the range, if you plan on doing any hunting with this crossbow, you will want to upgrade ASAP.

Consider upgrading to the Hawke 3X32 MAP Crossbow Scope. It has all the basic features you'll need in the field, and it comes at a price point that won't kill your budgetNoise Suppression

While the PSE Fang LT isn't exactly whisper quiet, it is much quieter than most models coming fresh from the factory. This is mostly due to the integrated string stops. Designed to limit vibration and reduce noise, string stops are a feature you would normally expect to find on a more expensive crossbow.

If you want to minimize the chances of that big buck "jumping the string" (the startle response that causes deer to quickly drop at the sound of string), consider adding some type of aftermarket suppressor.

User Comfort

One of the best features of the PSE Fang LT is its narrow design and compact size. Well-suited for men, women, and even young shooters, the Fang measures 15 ½ inches from axel to axel and just over 36 inches in length. The moderate weight (only about 6 pounds) and narrow design allow you to easily maneuver in tight areas that larger models wouldn't allow. This is the perfect crossbow for hunting from a tree stand or hunting blind.

With a draw weight of only 155 pounds, the Fang isn't difficult to cock, especially with the supplied cocking rope, making it a great option for women and young shooters. By using the cocking rope, the felt draw weight decreases significantly. However, if you're lacking in upper body strength, the Parker Sidewinder crank works well on this model without any special alterations.

One of the first things you'll notice when you shoulder the Fang is how the pistol grip and trigger are placed relatively forward. This allows for more of the weapon's weight to sit back against your shoulder. The result is a surprisingly stable shooting platform that allows you to hold the crossbow in firing position without immediate fatigue. This is particularly important for hunters who may have to hold the crossbow still in the ready position as they wait for game to wander in close for a clean shot.

The stock of the Fang also has an integrated cheek rest to aid stability and shooting comfort. The Fang's grip is also adjustable, mounting to a picatinny rail making it easy to adjust for individual shooting customization. Safety

The PSE Fang LT comes equipped with an automatic anti-dry fire inhibitor that engages every time you cock the crossbow. When cocking Fang, the safety will need to be in the "fire" position. However, as the string passes through the safety area, it is automatically switching the mechanism to the "safe" position to engage the anti-dry fire feature.

Another handy safety feature are the aggressive finger reminders that work to keep delicate appendages safely away from the rail. The Fang achieves this intuitive reminder through a forward grip design that serves as a thumb guard, allowing your fingers to naturally settle safely away from dangerous moving parts.

Summary

It's hard to find the level of power and performance you get in the PSE Fang LT, especially at such an incredible value price. This model is perfect for hunters of all ages and sizes. It is comfortable to shoot and highly practical for taking game from close quarters like tree stands and hunting blinds where maneuverability is an asset.

Even though you'll need to upgrade the bolts and optic before you do any serious hunting with the Fang, you'll be hard-pressed to find a better crossbow for the money. Offering value and performance well beyond its price point, the PSE Fang LT is perfect for hunters of all ages and experience levels.

Add Ons

The PSE Fang LT features a picatinny rail, making it easy to trick out your crossbow with any number of popular grips, lights, or tactical accessories.

Considering the power and overall quality of this affordable crossbow and the low price point, we don't want to be overly critical of the included accessories. However, if your plan is to hunt big game, you will want to invest in some quality bolts before you head out into the woods. The bolts that come in this set-up just aren't going to cut it.

In our opinion, the Carbon Express Maxima Hunter is your best choice with the BloodSport Witness Crossbow Arrow coming in a close second.
